RI-226i 'On Simple Definitions of Scientology Terms'
Dedicated to CB Willis
from Ron's Inspector
Message # RI-226i for Internet
One of the practical definitions
of the word 'Definition' is:
'A description of a word or idea in such a way
that it becomes understandable enough
for the person(s) who use(s) it.'
In some cases, defining "Tree"
as "A plant which can grow very big and very old",
can be good for many situations,
but a biology student
might feel offended by its over-simplification.
In other words,
there are different grades to definitions of words,
which - in the English language area at least -
is reflected by the use
of "Beginners Dictionaries", "Standard Dictionaries"
and "Advanced or Specialized Dictionaries".
My simple definitions of Scientology terms
should be understood in this light.
The original definitions of Scientology terms
can of course be found
in the Scientology text and taped lectures of L. Ron Hubbard.
These are collected to some extent
in the - far too old and far too small -
"Technical Dictionary of Dianetics and Scientology".
This is definitely not a simple Dictionary,
but more a rather thorough librarians job.
Also, L. Ron Hubbard's native language was English,
while mine was not.
This gives me the advantage of understanding more easily
what a simple, or beginners definition would look like.
And that is the value of my simple definitions.
On top of that, they are written by ME.
That means:
from my own understanding of the matter,
out of my own love for people,
and born out of live communication with people,
and NOT from a dry, rather non-involved,
rather lifeless but very strict viewpoint
of a librarian or a scientist or scholar.
My simple definitions of Scientology terms
can be very effective
in suddenly opening up the subject of Scientology
for someone who before
was "trying to figure out what the hell it is all about".
(If anybody, as CB Willis suggests,
would like to collect these simple definitions
from the RI-series, and pass the collection on to me for OK,
I will gladly publish it, with full credit to the editor.)
