You are clearing up concepts
  by looking at concepts you might have some confusions on, and
  by looking at concepts which you have a lot of confusion on.

These concepts are represented by words,
  but it isn't the word you are clearing,
   it is the CONCEPT you are clearing up.


In many languages,
 one and the same word (one and the same label) is often used
   for two or more similar concepts,
   for two or more rather different concepts,
  or even
   for two or more very different concepts,
  and exceptionally,
   for two or more opposite concepts.

This is where
  using the term "Word Clearing"
   has some validity,
 because part of clearing up concepts
  is clearing up the labels
    (which are the words, or symbols, or gestures,
     or pictograms, or the signs in sign-language).


These labels are often used for more than one concept.

So you read the word "to care for", and
 if you know
   that in parts of America you can
    care for a bottle of wine
    or for a piece of toast,
  then you won't get confused,
   because you know that the label "to care for"
     is also used for the concept of "to like and enjoy"
     and not only for the concept of
        "to take some responsibility for the well-being of".

And you may be, in America,
  on the first floor, meaning the ground floor,
 while in Europe you are,
   when you are on the "first floor",
    one floor above the ground floor.



Still, you are clearing CONCEPTS,
  as the main activity
   of what L. Ron Hubbard called "Word Clearing".


If you are helping another to find confused concepts
 in order to clear them up,
   you do not just Assess
    a list of words representing subjects,
     (on the basic "Word Clearing" List,
      which locates misunderstood words in life),
  but
   you are Assessing (preferably with the use of an E-meter)
    a list of CONCEPTS,
      to see which of those CONCEPTS
       are confused in that person's life,
        - and you use labels for those concepts,
          and the labels are words.


The person who wrote Word Clearing Series 8,
 - "Standard Case Supervision for Word Clearing in Session, Method One"
    [HCO Bulletin of 30 June 1971], signed by L. Ron Hubbard -
  did not understand this at all.

If it is L. Ron Hubbard who developed it,
 - I have no evidence for or against that, at present,
    as there are many many Rundowns and Auditing actions in Scientology
      which he did not develop himself,
       but
      which he demanded to be called the "Source" of,
         (because he could shout the loudest, and)
        because he actually developed the basics of Auditing in the 1950's,
          (when he was still himself following
           the purposes and the activity which he formulated around 1952).


The person who wrote that HCO Bulletin, "Word Clearing Series 8",
 wrote, in the last section of the Bulletin,
   that you are forbidden
    to clear the words representing the subjects
       - the subjects of a Basic List of Subjects
         that you are using to find mis-understood concepts.

He goes on to explain
 that,
  "if somebody has cleared up
    the word representing that subject,
     - for example, if one has cleared up the word "grammar"
        representing the subject of grammar -
    one could then NOT FIND
     misunderstood words or concepts IN that subject."

He says as much
 as
   "understanding the WORDS on the Basic List
    would prevent you from FINDING
     mis-understood words
      in the subjects represented by those words".


The guy who wrote it is an idiot and a robot,
 he means - if we take the example subject "grammar" -
   "Clearing up the confusion on the word 'grammar' to 'EP',
     is the END of the action of
     taking up the SUBJECT of 'grammar'."

   ['EP' meaning End Phenomena,
      meaning, the person happy that he knows it now,
      and verification of this on the E-Meter with a 'Floating Needle'
        (see RI-610i 'Understanding the E-meter, correctly' 26 June 96)]


He is a robot,
 because he confuses
    a RULE about the action,
   with
    the PURPOSE of the action.

He is an idiot,
 because he wants to confuse two things:
   following the rule of
    'ending when the End Phenomena is reached',
      (knowing what the word [in our example, the word "grammar"] means,
      and a 'Floating Needle' on the E-meter about that),
  with
   following the PURPOSE of the action
    (to clear up all confused concepts in the subject)
    and ending when the PURPOSE is achieved!

To promote "Standard Tech"
 is then typical Reactive Mind "think":
   IN ORDER TO keep to fixed rules or actions
    which apply to certain conditions,
      he corrupts the whole activity.

THE REALLY BAD THING IS
 THAT HE ENFORCES "STANDARD TECH" or "STANDARD ADMIN"
  AS THE ONLY RIGHT THING TO DO,
   IN ORDER TO not have to look at life,
   IN ORDER TO not have to look at people.

And that is the insanity
 of the "official" Church of Scientology,
  introduced by L. Ron Hubbard.


He applies fixed rules, which he calls "Standard Tech":
   "An action is completed
     when the person is happy about some realization, and
     when this is confirmed
       by the E-meter showing a 'Floating Needle'."

Now, as an experienced Auditor,
 I can tell you that a person can "realize"
   that being completely irresponsible about life,
    and about his past actions and about others
     is the way he feels great and able and free.
 And sure enough, this is confirmed
  by the E-meter showing a 'Floating Needle'.



Suppose you want to clear the confusions
 on the subject of "cars" with some person from Tibet
 (which has mountain-paths mainly),
    he KNOWS that a "car" is a platform with two wheels
     drawn by an animal called a yak,
     or whatever he KNOWS a "car" is.

You are not going to clear the SUBJECT of cars with him
  unless he has FIRST fully understood
    what you mean with "cars", of course.


Or, you don't get anywhere, quite probably,
 with a person from communist China on the SUBJECT of "churches"
   unless he has FIRST fully understood
    what is meant with "churches".

So you FIRST fully clear somebody on what for example "stars" are,
  and THEN you ask him:
    "Is there any mis-understood word or confused concept
     that you have on the SUBJECT of 'stars'?"

And you use dictionaries and encyclopedias, etc., and
  you make him demonstrate the concept, and
   make him give examples, and
   let him draw it on paper, and
  ask him how he can USE the concept in life,
    TILL HE UNDERSTANDS THE CONCEPT.


Do you understand this?




If that HCO Bulletin, called Word Clearing Series 8, of 30 June 1971,
 had NOT been written by a nitwit,
   - which may have been L. Ron Hubbard,
       because he signed his name to it,
     and if L. Ron Hubbard did not sign it,
       then he is not only lying about that,
        but he is also lying about the fact
         that he at least saw it and approved it,
      but then again, maybe the nitwit WAS L. Ron Hubbard -
if it had NOT been written by a nitwit,
  but by a sane person,
 then that false and robotic data
   would NOT have been used,
  and
 then even Jon Atack, the "Natural Word Clear",
   would have been made to see
    that he is extremely confused
      on most, if not all, concepts
       of the activity called Auditing, and
 then even Jon Atack might have become sane.




I don't know whether you had this correct
  if and when you received or gave
    "Word Clearing Method One"
    (Word Clearing Series 8 of L. Ron Hubbard)
      - where a full Assessment
         of many many subjects is done, with the help of an E-meter,
          to locate confused concepts.


Let's take an example.

One subject, of the Basic List of Subjects to Assess,
 is "grammar", as you know by now from the examples above.

And you think
  "Well, I know the word 'grammar'!
    I have been beaten to death with this word
     during my schooltime."
  "Nobody knows this word better
    than a highschool graduate!"
  "It means sitting for hours where I don't want to be,
    listening to things I am not interested in
     and which nobody has any use for.
   It is taking language apart
    so that it is no fun anymore
     to read the actual story or the book
      which uses that language."
  "It means lots of unnecessary and confusing labels
    for words and for parts of sentences."

You see what I mean with 'knowing the word "grammar"'?


The CONCEPT of grammar has to be cleared up.

Only THEN you can ask successfully
 for confused concepts in the SUBJECT OF THE CONCEPT.

Upon Assessment with an E-meter,
 the WORD "grammar" may not Read on the E-meter at all, you see.


One guy, Jon Atack is his name,
 claimed
  that NONE OF THE SUBJECTS
  OF THE BASIC SUBJECTS LIST
   WERE READING ON THE E-METER,
     because he claimed that "he was a 'Natural Word Clear'."

Strangely enough, however,
  Jon Atack could not Audit anybody!
    (And he still can't, as far as I know.)
 (Not so strangely,
   he was also a user of LSD,
     who was committed to psychiatric care
      to remedy the effects of his use of LSD.)

Needless to say (when you know that he could not Audit),
  he could not define
   the CONCEPTS of basic terms of Auditing.

But he protested [claimed] forcefully that he knew the WORDS,
  and therefore he objected
    to being asked to define the CONCEPTS of the words,
  and therefore he strongly objected
    to clearing up the CONCEPTS.

Yet, Jon Atack considers himself
  (and demanded of others - and still demands of others -
   that they consider him)
       an "Authority" on the subject of Auditing!



The technique of clearing up,
 of un-confusing
  the concepts connected to a word,
    is to use dictionaries.

You use dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.,
  to clear up the concepts which those words represent.


It is OBJECTIVE THERAPY - I like to call it therapy,
  in Scientology it is called Auditing, usually -
    and it is VERY VERY THERAPEUTIC.

It is therapy,
  directly related to the agreements and
   reality that others have,
   reality that exists in the physical universe,
   reality that exists in the society,
   reality that exists in history.

This THERAPY is ENORMOUSLY EFFECTIVE
 IN INCREASING SANITY, RESPONSIBILITY AND ABILITY,
  AND IT IS ...OBJECTIVE!


It is a brilliant technique
 because it gets you really back
  into communication
   with life,
   with people,
   with civilization,
   with history and even
   with your own past lives.



I know this to be the case,
  because I used this technique myself,
   without an E-meter, just with dictionaries,
     clearing up all words and all concepts and definitions
      connected to a word,
       including the history of the word, and
       including the history of the concept.

L. Ron Hubbard
 - or whoever wrote those Bulletins which bear his name -
 calls this "Method Nine Word Clearing",
   though he does not explain
    how to actually do it properly.

But you can read that here, now.


However, I used this technique in the suppressive environment
  of the "official" Church of Scientology,
   at Saint Hill UK, in East Grinstead, England.

The staff there got mad LIKE HELL at me,
 because I, in the course of less than two months,
  became brighter and more aware
   than all of them together,
 who were supposed to be,
  with the Guardian Office World Wide at Saint Hill UK,
    the top brass and cream of all Church of Scientology staff
   ("tip-top people from the top on down", according to L. Ron Hubbard).

They - almost all staff in East Grinstead
        (with the exception of my Course Supervisor, Marc McQuade),
       and later almost all staff in Copenhagen -
 didn't like that, you see, that I became so very bright,
   though they PRETENDED
    that it was their goal to make others more able.

It was all good and fine with them
 to make others A LITTLE BIT more able,
   but NOT more able and more aware than THEY themselves, please!

It was very very upsetting to their "pecking-order",
 of "Who is allowed to be better than another".




Back to the subject of clearing up confused concepts:


This technique of clearing up confused concepts
 is falsely named
   "Method One, or Method Four, or Method Nine Word Clearing",
 because
  "WORD CLEARING" IS JUST THE ACTION
    OF CLEARING UP CONFUSED CONCEPTS.

And it remains just that action - clearing up confused concepts -
 regardless from what angle of approach
  or regardless in what relation to the student
    you proceed to do so.

You don't need a "Standard" Courseroom,
    (I am perfectly able to study
     while sipping at a glass of tea and while listening to music)
  or a "Standard" Auditing session,
  or an "OK from L. Ron Hubbard to Audit",
    in order to clear up confused concepts, you know!



With this technique of clearing up concepts,
 you can (and often should) locate
   an earlier confused concept or subject.

And with the help of
 dictionaries, encyclopedias, history books, etc.,
   you clear up
    confused concepts in an earlier subject.

It is usually necessary
  to locate the BEGINNING of a confusion,
   - which may have very well started
     in an earlier similar subject -
  in order to get the whole subject free from confusion.


But the main point is
  that you are clearing up confused concepts,
 and
  that words are only labels for concepts.




I still must mention a very very important point,
  on the subject of "Word Clearing",
   and that is
     THE SUBJECT OF NAMES OF PEOPLE, or individuals.

This subject is entirely (and intentionally,
  since he employed very heavy past life criminals as highest staff)
    missed by L. Ron Hubbard.



There is a tremendous amount of confusion
  on the subject of names of people.

Names are just labels of individuals,
  each different lifetime
   the same individual (you, that is)
     has a different label.


On top of that,
 many (completely different) beings
  have precisely the same or almost the same name-label.


I always got very upset this lifetime
  when I heard somebody else being called Leonardo,
 till I found out
  that my own name had been,
   around 1500 in Italy and France, Leonardo
     ...da Vinci.

But I think you understand why I was upset.


So, on the subject of people's names
 we have a tremendous amount of confusion of concepts:

   In history there were many French kings
    who were stupid enough to call themselves Napoleon,
     named after the most criminal Emperor they ever had
       - Napoleon Bonaparte of Corsica, around 1800, in France.

   In America you have two well-known people from history called
    Jefferson:
      - Thomas Jefferson
         (President of the United States of America
          between 1801 and 1809)
       and
        Jefferson Davis
         (President of the short-lived 'Confederate States of America'
           [the Southern States of America, that wanted to
            continue to use slaves for their plantations],
          from 1861 to 1865, during the Civil War of America).

   And you have two American Presidents called Roosevelt:
      - Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt
          (President of the USA between 1901 and 1909),
          who seemed to have been a rather good guy,
           ['Teddybear' is named after him],
       and
        Franklin Delano Roosevelt
          (President of the USA between 1933 and 1945),
          who supported Stalin in Communist Russia.

   And then you had another guy who was also called Franklin:
        Benjamin Franklin,
          in the American Government around 1760
          (Member of the Pennsylvania Assembly from 1751 to 1764,
           US Ambassador in France from 1776 to 1785).


Could be pretty confusing for somebody,
 if he reads Jefferson, or Roosevelt, or Franklin,
   without knowing that these can mean totally different people, isn't it?



It is tremendously important, vitally important,
 to also clear fully
   the concept called "names of people",
   and everything connected with it.

If you want to be alive and sane that is,
  which most of my readers do want very much.
