We assisted Helmut Kohl yesterday in increasing his lifeforce,
which I perceived being hindered by some irrational opponent.
The Event:
(From Reuter press-agency, BONN [Germany], May 21 1997)
"Germany agreed to a new investment support package on Wednesday for
the former communist east, still a jobs and economic blackspot seven
years and more than a trillion Deutsch Marks of state aid after
unification in 1990.
(...)
The new investment package will come in next year at the same time as
a promised cut in the solidarity tax surcharge which has helped
finance much of the reconstruction of east Germany but is becoming
increasingly unpopular among west Germans who pay the lion's share of
it.
Chancellor Helmut Kohl, anxious to bolster east Germans' faith in a
government which promised them an economy with "blossoming
landscapes" after unification, will himself present the new jobs pact
in Berlin on Thursday. [The day we assisted Helmut Kohl, as reported
below, to face opposition to it.]

Helmut Kohl and his intention to care for employment in Germany -
a success to which we may have contributed.
