      RI-977i 'Repair Mark VII E-meter by chip-replacement'

from Ambassador for Mankind

Message # RI-977i for Internet

When the Mark VII "Scientology" moving-coil E-meter
does not keep the needle still anymore while
trimming (when it is not measuring),
    you probably have
damage from static electricity on one of the chips.

The chip that has to be occasionally exchanged
(when it is damaged due to static electricity, for instance)
 is placed
directly under the connector with the
two-wire cable that goes to the 'trim'-knob
(and it is next to 'Connector 11 [eleven]'
that goes to the 'TA Display Board'
      [the board that shows digitally
the value of the Tone Arm position]).

The chip is called:

        'MC 14066-BCP
         FTF 9525'
         (Motorola)

In some Mark VII E-meters
this chip is already made easily exchangeable
  with a plug-in socket,
so you don't have to solder it (out and) in.
